Activities in the Upper Venosta Valley

The west of South Tyrol is synonymous with diversity

In and around Slingia there are activities for all tastes. Not without reason the Upper Venosta Valley, in the border triangle between Italy, Austria and Switzerland, is one of the most varied regions of South Tyrol. For this reason we prefer to divide all indoor and outdoor activities into interest groups.

For hiking enthusiasts

Hiking to the Sesvenna hut: in summer with mountain boots, in winter with snowshoes or touring skis. In both seasons a great experience with breathtaking views.

Hiking to the Watles summit: from the top station of the chairlift in Prämajur, a constant but relatively easy hike to the summit cross takes 1.5 to 2 hours.

For bicycle enthusiasts

Mountain bike tour to the Schliniger Alm: a cosy excursion in the middle of a large alpine landscape.

The Adige Cycle Path along the Via Claudia Augusta: starting at Lake Resia, the cycle path leads past the lake tower, along the shore of Lake St. Valentin via Burgusio with its seven Romanesque churches, through the medieval town of Glorenza and then down to the spa town of Merano.

For families

An easy hike to Lake Pfaffen at Watles: a comfortable and well-marked trail at Watles, which can also be done with a pushchair.

An excursion on foot or by chairlift to the lake at Watles: a small adventure playground for young and old with a wooden raft, a large suspension bridge, a spring and 2-metre-high waterfalls.

A hike to Lake Resia: The MS Hubertus hiking ship invites young and old to an exploration tour with spectacular views.

For those interested in culture

A visit to the monastery of Monte Maria in Burgusio: it is the highest Benedictine abbey in Europe and has numerous artistic treasures such as the crypt and the church of the Benedictine monks.

A visit to Coira Castle in Sluderno: one of the best preserved castles in South Tyrol, with the largest private armoury and fairytale arcades.

For winter lovers

Snowshoe hike to the Plantapatsch hut at Watles: start at the valley station of the Watles family ski area and then over the Höfer Alp to the Plantapatsch hut at 2010 m.

A sledge run through the larch forest at Watles: the 4 km long natural sledge run is a real family tip and probably one of the most beautiful natural sledge runs in South Tyrol.
